Creative Spanish for Adults

Class Details

This class is designed to ignite the creative spark in educators with little or no Spanish knowledge. You can memorize all the vocabulary and understand the grammar, but unless you can combine creative production with linguistic knowledge, you will not be confident in using Spanish to connect with your own students. The presentation of the lesson and specific vocabulary will be done in both English and Spanish, with a reference to guide you. Then comes a short phase of Spanish immersion. By completing a creative project and following the Spanish commands yourself, educators will: · Personally experience what it is like to be instructed in an unfamiliar language · Use the language immediately and encode the vocabulary in your memory faster · Practice, practice, practice in practical ways and leave behind the fear of making mistakes · Receive immediate coaching and feedback from a native Spanish speaker · Complete a fun, creative project to take home · Naturally build rapport and connection with other educators in the community · Ask any questions about other cultures, languages, or worldviews to better understand the students in your own classroom Participants will gain confidence speaking Spanish on a variety of topics: · Common classroom commands and guidance · Using greetings and encouragement · Explaining schedules and classroom routines · Setting expectations and clearing up common misunderstandings · Gentle correction and constructive feedback · Basic conversation and phrases Learning a language once a week will not result in much progress, so we provide an online component later in the week that reinforces memory through creative activities. This is a year-long class that will use the same textbook and workbook for the entire year. In September, you will be charged a registration fee of $20 to partially pay for your textbook and workbook. After enrollment, you will be charged a monthly fee of $69 on the 1st of every month.
