Is your teen tired of death by worksheets? Do they struggle in Spanish language classes in school that are focused on reading and writing rather than a balanced approach that incorporates listening and speaking? Have they taken Spanish for several months but cannot use even basic phrases? They may need to take a different approach to language learning. They do not need to take a class for months to be able to use a language! They should be using language as they learn, in order to form neural connections and turn working memory into long-term memory. This class is designed to ignite the creative spark in middle and high schoolers while learning Spanish. They can memorize all the vocabulary and understand the grammar, but unless they can combine creative production with linguistic knowledge, your teen will struggle in communicating even the simplest messages. Class Structure: The presentation of the lesson and specific vocabulary will be done in both English and Spanish, with a reference to guide you. Then comes a short phase of Spanish immersion. By completing a creative project and following the Spanish commands yourself, students will: · Use the language immediately and encode the vocabulary in your memory faster · Practice, practice, practice in practical ways and leave behind the fear of making mistakes · Receive immediate coaching and feedback from a native Spanish speaker · Complete a fun, creative project to take home · Naturally build rapport and connection with other Spanish students in the community · Ask any questions about other cultures, languages, or worldviews to better understand the students in your own classroom Participants will gain confidence speaking Spanish on a variety of topics: · Common life experiences and activities · Using greetings and talking about yourself · Basic conversation and phrases · Grammar and widening vocabulary · Common pitfalls and clearing up common misunderstandings This is a year-long class that will use the same textbook and workbook for the entire year. In September, you will be charged a registration fee of $20 to partially pay for your workbook. After enrollment, you will be charged a monthly fee of $79 on the 1st of every month. The monthly $79 charges are based on a 13-week semester to make everyone’s accounting easier, rather than a weekly charge. It evens out with four charges of $79 for 13 total weeks of lessons.
